What exactly are all the issues that exist in Football's A03 ROM straight from a new flash. I need to know, so I can address these issues directly in my kitchen release. If possible, please post the fixes (cab files, or any other files) one at a time. I know about the SP1 fix, but I want the fixes seperated so I can make sure they get applied as needed.

Thank you so much for the information!!

WM6 FE has issues with Wi-Fi WPA-PSK(TKIP) . The fix is to exchange the wzcsvc.dll in the windows directory.

Not a real WM6 FE problem but MS WM6 does not consider the most recent change in the daylight saving time start date.

This http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/daylightsaving/daylightdownload.mspx
fixes it.

The WM6 FE has a registry entry that prevents Windows Media Player to automatically switch to landscape mode when full screen view is selected.

In WM5 when setting up a connection you had the ability of adding these in the extra settings. Under WM6 this Extra Settings menu is not available, hence the "add init" mentioned here.

This fix enables you to enter a custom AP (Access Point) or Init String into a GPRS setup.

The GLYPHCACHE which is responsible for the speed of tex displays is to small for the X51v.

The GLYPHCACHE tweak increases the limit for the GLYPHCACHE to speed up the text display (eg. menus or internet explorer). I would love to have it included in the kitchen however it has never been mentioned in the WM6 FE thread. I personally think it speeds up the display dramatically.

Since this was not discussed in the WM6 FE thread I would like to ask all beta tester volunteers to try this tweak and report if it really speeds up the text display ;)

HKey Local Machine/System/GDI/GLYPHCACHE change limit from 8192 to 32768

Related information:
Every font (incl bold ...) uses one glyphcache.
Clear Type (if enabled) uses 4 glyph caches per font.

The WM6 FE Service Pack 1 (SP1) includes a neat feature that uses the Axim's record button (left side of the device) to list all running programs as icons in the middle of the screen. Pressing record repeatedly selects one of the running programs. I like the feature but did not find an Url for it.

lord.cassandra (http://forum.xda-developers.com/member.php?u=461450) compiled SP1. He might be willing to shed some light on this.

All posts above are not my work but the work of several users in the original WM6 FE forum (thank you all for contributing to the ROM). I have merely separated the individual fixes, used text from the original posts and listed all? fixes to the best of my knowledge.

I overtweaked ;) my X51v and had to do a hard reset yesterday. The memory for the individual fixes was therefore quite fresh. :o

I do not use all the fixes so it might be that a description to an existing problem is wrong or misleading. If you know any better post to this thread or sent PM and I will change my wording.

Are you sure this is a new feature? I actually didn't like it (wanted to use the record button) and found that it was just remapped from Note app to AltTab app. But is AltTab a new app or one which was already there?

I am sure it is new because it is listed as an added feature by lord.cassandra in the post that he did to "advertise" his SP1.

Second proof is that I have avoided to use SP1 with my present set up and I am missing the alt tab thingi ;)

Good news is (AFAIK) that if this goes into the kitchen it should give you the choice to install it or not (correct LennySh?).

Anyway, this is the kind of critical comment that I am waiting for and it should help us to iron out the bumps. Thank you for your contribution.

The WM6 FE has a registry entry that prevents Windows Media Player to automatically switch to landscape mode when full screen view is selected.

Please confirm this. On my Axim, the LandscapeMode is set to 4, and the Angle is 0. Should I still change it to 1?

My Experience

After installing WM6 FE (A03 RTM) when selecting the full screen mode (the button left to the world symbol) the Windows Media Player did not switch to Landscape Mode any longer.

I had to tweak my registry in the way I linked to in order to get this working again.

- I can definitely say that LandscapeMode = 0 causes the Windows Media Player to ignore the landscape mode.

- LandscapeMode = 1 fixes this and the Windows Media Player will switch to the landscape mode again (I assume 1 is the setting that you would see in the Axim delivery configuration, which I have not seen in years ;-) ).

Links and Resources

The only English reference that I see for the use of the LandscapeMode (I did not google exten-sively) is here. ( http://www.pocketpcdn.com/articles/rotatese.html) This source claims that LandscapeMode is a DWord flag only. It also has an explanation for the Angle value that you mentioned.

http://www.pocketpcdn.com/articles/rotatese.html

I found a German source that mentions the LandscapeMode4 in more detail:

Here is the translation:

Screen Allignment:
Right:
HKLM\System\GDI\Rotation\LandscapeMode = 1 (DWORD decimal)

Left:
HKLM\System\GDI\Rotation\LandscapeMode = 4 (DWORD decimal)

Please don’t ask me what influence this has on the WMP. 4 might be as good as 1.

I'll be releasing a ROM hopefully this afternoon for testing purposes. It will be compiled using my kitchen. The dev of the new BuildOS is all but done with my modifications, and therefore I should be able to release the kitchen soon, I hope. I'll build a couple of ROMS with it once I get it, and then release a beta release for others. But in my ROM, it'll be very basic. And hopefully, with all of the updates already included. So there should not be anything need done afterwards, except install ur software. But, I'll post more later on!

Well, should I set it to 1 or 4 ?

I have tried both version and both tweaks are working. The difference is that 1 rotates the image to the left (creating the landscape mode) and 4 rotates the image to the right to create the landscape mode.

After some trials I vote for 4 because it rotates the image in a way that I can still use the buttons on my axim while in landscape mode.

Aniway, not much of a difference is it?

Does this fix it 100% ??? Or are there still some that have issues after applying this fix ??

I am usin WM6 with WPA TKIP and had to install the fix. WPA works great and almost stable for me.

I have 1 and 1/2 remaining issues.

1) I need to enter the name for my hidden network plus the password required for the encoded network. This is done in the settings screen of the WM6 WIFI tool. After entering my data and clicking OK to accept the changes the settings screen hangs and does not terminate. It also blocks the right portion of the title bar (clock, loudspeaker, ...). I have to go to Settings/system/memory/running programs to force terminate the window. Not to bad once you know what to do.

1/2) WIFI looses the encoding parameters sometimes (every 3 weeks?) and needs to be re programed.

For me better is 1 because i rotate always to left, like You wrote i can use the buttons ;)
Maybe there is something else (better way) to fix this issue.

When i use 1 there is ok, its rotate like in TCMP and other software so 1 is better for me

We have two options now

a) make it an option (possibly confusing the users of the kitchen)
b) use 1 as the default for the kitchen

Hello guys!
Thanks Lenny for this great forum...
I would just suggest a feature not included in any ROM...
It's x50mix the great Hardware Equalizer program...
About this I would also like to point out that perhaps there's a difference between old firmwares and new firmware audio driver.
As stated in Aximsite forum, starting from A12 ROM the sound has been limited to certain level, due to new laws on that stuff... This translate in strange behaviour of x50mix, with sound cut off if both Volume and Headphone booster are set to maximum. Perhaps we should investigate further comparing the older audio driver with the new one.

Cheers!

My English Football WM6 ROM from my kitchen has been uploaded !!!

I would like this ROM to be tested to see if the updates are applied correctly. That way as soon as the Dev is through with the BuildOS updates, it'll be close to perfect hopefully, maybe.

First 10 to go to Group Membership's (http://www.lennysh.com/forums/profile.php?do=editusergroups) under UserCP and join the group AximX51v Kitchen Testers will be my rom/kitchen beta testers!

If you are not registered, click here (http://www.lennysh.com/forums/register.php).

Once you sign up for that group membership (http://www.lennysh.com/forums/profile.php?do=editusergroups), there will be a new sub-forum under this forum named WM6 Kitchen. That is where the magic is. That will be where the kitchen will be posted as soon as I can. And where the ROM currently is posted at this very moment!

There is a Bugs/Patches thread for both the ROM and the Kitchen in that sub-forum. Please only post comments to the ROM download thread, and all bugs/patches to the corresponding bugs/patches thread.

Obviously anyone on this page is smart enough to get past the initial stage of flashing your PDA, and your probably all waaaay smarter than I am, but for anyone who has spent more than 10 min on any forum talking about flashing to WM6 we all know the most asked question and probably the most annoying question on a board is "how do I make this work?" well I finally got tired of it so I made a video tutorial on step by step directions of how to flash you'r X51v from WM5 to WM6 so for everyone who is tired of being constantly asked that question by newbies:noob: on all of your other respective forums about this update (don't worry about http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=331803&page=85 I already posted it there) you can just simply direct them to this link or even better yet make this link a sticky on every website about the WM6 update, because God knows were all tired of hearing thoes same stupid questions.

Sorry nellyspageli, but I'm afraid that the GAPI tweak isn't usable on WM6...Neither on WM5. Emulamer wrote this great tweak (formerly a new video driver) to dramatically improve performance with games and applications that support GAPI. This API issued by Microsoft is intended to give developers a direct way access video memory on pocket PC and simplify developing games. No 3D is implied in this. OpenGL-ES or D3DMobile are the API to do that. The bad thing is that Microsoft changes the way things works after WM2003SE and I asked many developers to make this video driver tweak work on WM5-WM6. Perhaps you could have better luck asking someone else? There are still many emulators and games that use GAPI and it's a shame that they have better performance on a WM2003SE x50v than newer WM5-WM6 x51v.

Hi LennySh...
Installing it's only half of the job...
The cab adds a control panel applet and a the driver itself.
After you launch the applet you'll see a selection of

Driver
'Original Driver'
'Enhanced Driver'

Enhanced Driver Mode
'2700G LCD Controller'
'XScale LCD Controller'

XScale GDI Options:
'use screen Sampling'

To start the driver if you have installed the version 2.0 you have to start the service every time you soft reset your device. The 1.11 release instead will keep the last driver selected settings.

You can read the help by clicking '?' in the control panel applet.
The fastest setting is Enhanced driver with XScale LCD controller
To test GAPI just try some game that has in its folder a file called GX.dll (It's the GAPI dynamic linking library) or you can try with an Emulator like PocketSnes rebuilt by Emulamer to use GAPI.

That is the behaviour I find when using WM5 on my x51v. I'm afraid that's the default behaviour. As soon as you make a softreset it turns on WIFI. I find that behaviour a little bit annoying too.

It has been said in the past that it does this as to not wipe out the WiFi settings/passwords. Don't know how true that is tho...

I am using x51v RTM A03 rom by Football with SP1.
Sometimes after my PDA is connected to a Wi-Fi network and goes to sleep, my Wi-Fi card acts as if disabled. It does not connect to any network and tab that displays wireless networks around disappears. Switching the card off and back on does not help. Only soft reset brings it to normal.
Aside from this one, no above mentioned Wi-Fi problems seem to appear on my pda.

I was running the A12 ROM on my X51v and was very happy with Windows Media Player 10 Mobile for Pocket PC version 10.2 playing this streaming media. The image would "break up" sometimes, but the video was in sync with the audio, and played smooth (no jerky video). The steaming media played nice just like on my desktop XP PC using Media Player 11.

With A17 and A03 RTM using Windows Media Player 10 Mobile for Pocket PC version 10.3 build 18508, the images never break up, and the image quality is better, but the video and audio are out of sync, and the video plays jerky (dropped frames). The streaming media plays nothing like it does on my desk XP PC.

TCPMP was better, at least audio and video is in sync, but the video was a bit jerky.

I'd love to see how the new ROM plays this Windows streaming media.

I never could get youtube videos playing on my X51v using RvBCrS_HTC_Streaming_Media.cab. I tried with the A17 and A03 RTM ROMs. I tried with 2 different wireless routers with a static IP in a DMZ. I would see the little box appear, then get "failed to find network" after about 20 seconds of waiting.

I'd love to see youtube working on the AXIM X51v.

In the registry under HKLM and HKCU, it apperas the key RegPersisted.

I think it could be a bug.

I find this info about this key:

# If the boot is not a clean boot, Filesys.exe sets the registry value RegPersisted under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE to 1. At this point, non-user specific registry data becomes available.

and

If the user registry is not clean, Filesys.exe sets the registry value RegPersisted under HKEY_CURRENT_USER to 1.

You're way off on this one. "Internet Calling" is WM6's built-in VoIP software, and is perfectly at home in "classic mode" as it doesn't require a typical mobile phone connection, but rather USB or WiFi will work just fine.

If you pull it out, you're making it Classic MINUS.

Anyway, how about opening up this beta? It's a bit ridiculous that you've established separate forums when XDA-Developers works just fine--but a closed beta of a mere 10 people? Eeeesh.

Have you experimented the ROM with different Page Pool sizes...?
I think 8 MB is too big because it leave only 29-30 MB of free RAM...
4.5 should be better... But how does it work when you launch an executable that is bigger than the Page Pool?

Kitchen has been fitted to be able to set the desired pagepool before the build process. Therefore, I should be able to build a ROM with any desired pagepool. I have not tested this yet, but it use's the same method another kitchen we made does, and so it should work. I'll test this later if I can. Next ROM I'll try to remember to use 5 megs pagepool...and we'll see how that goes. I'm assuming the free space afterwards will be 3 megs' more than normal?

Actually, on the two x51v roms I built, I changed some of the default registry values in order to improve performance. When I do so the axim performs better but it uses more of the ram. I've modified the pagepool to 5 Mb, in order to get more than 30 Mb free available at reset. I need these 30 Mb free in order to properly use the 2700G games.

I wish I could re-add that. ModemIS should be under connections in my rom till I can figure it out...

Some Manual Methods:

You cannot specify initialization string for your GPRS network in the Connection Manager.
E.g. for my GPRS provider it is AT+CGDCONT=1,"IP","internet" .
I have found a solution in some group on the internet:
Registry - \HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\Unimodem\Init
Add string value 3 (values 1 and 2 already exist).
Specify value(string): AT+CGDCONT=1,"IP","internet"<cr>

I am just starting to look at it.

Word is opening my documents way faster than A03 RTM. Way faster.

Alt Tab works well.

File Explorer is way faster.

Clicking tabs is faster.

I see the thin red/yellow/green horizontal line at top of screen - battery meter is nice.

I am playing with all the apps I've never used before - ozVGA, X51Mix, Adobe Reader LE (I used 2.0).

Why is it when we get something new and better, after lots of effort is put into it, something that works great, we start noticing what is missing? Beats me.

i love it, it's much faster! and it seems to stay connected to my wireless network without dropping off every 5 min.

but why did the switcher bar go away? I used that thing religiously, i understand that there's the alt+tab program, but that doesn't let you close running programs.

also in file explorer, when you tap the "My device" menu, it comes down and lists every folder on the device, the old file explorer would show your memory cards first and then your last opened path, it makes it awkward to find the memory card.

I'm not complaining at all, I'm just giving my input about some of the feature changes.
Good job, i cant wait to see what else you have in store!!!

Yeah but tap on the My Device/Windows and you relise how much faster the new file explorer is, I would gladly have to search a couple of seconds for my SD or CF cards than to give up the new file explorers speed!:)

Well since noone has replied, I did a hard reset and have had no problems at all.

Hard reset does fix most issues I have discovered no matter which ROM I have upgraded to on my unit. Its also another reason why I keep my application list very simple and flexible as far as what those applications can actually do for me. I had my Palm (when I used a Palm) loaded with special and unique applications. When I switched to a PPC it made that move a great effort to find similar applications in the PPC world. I finally ended up just using a very few applications that can be used for various functions, of course all of this is IMHO.

I've been using a 8gb sdhc class 4 for a while and it works great.

Just wanted to report that my new Adata 16GB SDHC card works great with my X51V. I have over 5.9 GB of data stored on it at this point, with more to come. I also have a 16GB CF card with over 10GB of movies on it, giving me a total of 32GB of external storage.

I've just up to WM6 A03, the 2nd ROM of Lennysh. Everything works fine, except that the Pocket Outlook seems to be a bit trouble. I could not create any email account. Every time tap to select "New account", nothing happend.

Also, the game Resco Sokoban claims that it is not enough memory, so animations & effects are disable. Is there any relation between this msg and the 5MB page pool size of this ROM ?

Hi,

I'm having a problem with the NTLM. Unfortunately it is not possible for me to connect to my samba share. It was possible with WM5, but since I'm having WM6 on my unit (both your and original football edition) it won't connect.

There are many others having this problem, must be a generic WM6 issue.

In theory changing the key at HKLM\Comm\SecurityProviders\NTLM\LmCompatibilityLe vel to 2 from 3 should help, but it doesn't :(.

I just went through the upgrade process to football a04. It seemed to go through flawlessly (X51), but when I hard reset I get a message to restore defaults or cancel - both go to a blank screen and I can't get it to boot. Any thoughts?

That rom is for x51v, not the x51...

It may be bricked. Fortunately, there's a solution to try If that's really the case. In our forum there's a section that can help you resurrect your X51. Jut follow this: http://forum.lennysh.com/local_links.php?catid=11
I truly hope it can help you out! And, be extremely careful next time when playing with ROM man.

What about the issue with the NTLM so far?
