Dell Axim x51v WM6.1 L11 20273 (LennySh Edition)

I flashed 6.1 L11 to x51v in June 2008. I'm still using and loving it. Just wanted to pop in and say THANKS! Lenny.

(CE OS 5.2.20273 (Build 20273.1.3.3.1 LennySH) It has few very minor bugs - not even worth mentioning.

PS switched my PC from WinXPx86 to Win7HPx64 in Dec09. Lenny's L11 works virtually flawlessly with Win7.

I checked my Dell X51v and found that I have the A06 bios. Do I need to follow these steps to upgrade to A12 bios before doing this upgrade?

Yes you need to flash A12 first.

We have 3 x51v devices. One has HTC WM6.1 L11 and it works well with both CF card and SD card.

At the same time I have read several posts that users have issues reading both CF and SD cards but I'm not certain which version of your WM6.1 they are running.

We really need the ability to read CF and SD. Does L11 allow that?

yes. CF works great, no prob here... been using for a long time.

Every time I switch off my axim and then switch on again, my bluetooth devices fail to recognise each other. I have to delete them and re-pair.

I am trying to upgrade my old X51v and its ROM version is A01, is it ok to install the L11 and WM6.1 ? Will it be ok for WM6.5.5 & L16 ? Which one is better ? I am not very good at this and its the first time I do it, please give me some advice guys, thanks a lot !

Hi!

Sorry to be so pessimistic, but my advice is:
buy a new device and try to get happy with it. If you are not really willing to play around and find solutions for yourself before asking (or have someone who loves you enough to do it for you) then the aged Dell Axims are not the right thing for you. Android, Win7 or Iphone just work, no need tp play.

You are trying to do something that you do not want to do ...

All people in this forum are crazy geeks and I think that's good. If you are not (and your post tells that in my opinion - which is no problem at all as fact itsself) you should not assume that you get enough helpful hints ...

The only hint I give you is: read the forum and the links provided, look on the web - www.google.com is a good place to start, play around and learn ...

Ah - and my personal opinion concerning ROMs: Dynamite's 6.1 is the best ROM for Dell Axim X51v - but maybe that's due to the fact that I love using a stylus and do not like kinetic and that my Axim has the 128MB upgrade.

This ROM is not as good as the ROM you are using. I wish I could upload it for you but I never saved a copy. I really didn't like this. Just go back and read the tread for all the little bugs and complaints. Nothing against Lenny I just wasn't happy with the ROM. If you really want to try a different Axim X51v Rom I'll give you a link to a great one from Makuu:

Glad to see LennySh is still around and that this message base is available. I am late to PDA world just got mine off of Ebay where they are selling like hot cakes, still up to and over $100.

I have been reading HTGeeks message bases and found a wealth of information, sadly I see it has had it high moments, but non the less very useful to me.

Just installed the L11 ROM the other day and the today screen is green instead of blue as shown in release info. I cannot seem to find out how to change the color.

The Start Menu is a lot cleaner which is a plus although the Youtube app didn't work, I upgraded to another version and it works now.

Update:

I did a soft reset and the colors on all three themes are working, looks great!! Thanks LennySH, looks lot better than WM5.0

Everything I see from this year is attempts to clean the forum from spam - that was in February. Nore topic related posts are from last year. I would not consider that "around" but even I am using Android now besides for:
-biblereader
-chinese dictionary
-taking notes in lecures or the like

If Lenny is Around so to speak why hasn't he answered any of my messages i have sent him Ive sent at least five messages to him and not received one answer i think he has abandoned this website i never see him any more i used to be able to talk to him on AOL but he doesn't answer that either and that's why i don't come on here much any more i can't get any kind of support for anything like i used to when i first joined now i don't even know who is running the website if anybody is.

My X51v still works quite nicely after six years. I've upgraded to a Nexus One and a Galaxy Nexus, so I rarely use it, but I am glad to have still something as stable and reliable as my X51v.

I agree 100%. I keep mine charged and sync it once in a while to keep Outlook updated. It's a reliable and faithful backup device in a pinch.

I will now also be using mine to connect to my car for live diagnosis of various car sensors, to aid in spotting faults or running problems etc, plus I can see what my actual fuel consumption is. I bought this from Ebay and hopefully it will work ok with my Peugeot 306 2.0 XSi. Most of the software is free now

Yup ... after 5 days ( over 5 weekends) I got it up with WM 6 Classic.

Core Player works really well I find, plus it utilises the extra performance of the x51v Nvidia graphics chip.
