Talking Dell Axim x51v WM6.5 L12 21139 - Alpha2

Well, as I stated, I've recently got my hands on a QVGA WM6.5 source. I've created a VGA WM6.5 ROM for the X51v, and it runs fast as **** !!! The look and feel of this rom is the same as WM6.1 was, since it was QVGA, I could not fully port over all the nifty new apps like the today plugin that is all fancy. But, it is a WM6.5 Beta ROM. Meaning the OS itself likely may have issues itself, therefor porting a Beta OS to an old device would def make this ROM an Alpha release. It does have some graphics issues, and I plan on trying really hard to figure out what old files I need to replace to fix the graphic issues. But I will release this ROM for those of you that may want to "try" it out. I'm not going to say that this ROM is by far ready for day-to-day use. But who knows. Maybe it'll do better than I think it will. I'll try to post up some screenshots today, as well as the ROM itself. Until then, later!

REMINDER!
Please do not expect a perfect ROM. This ROM is an Alpha ROM and the OS (WM6.5) is still in Beta!! So somethings may/will not work!

Thumbs up

Amazing work man!!!!

You're the ONE.

By the way.... Are you releasing 'DELL', 'barebone' and 'LennySh' versions...?

Is the newer Pocket IE with flash support included?

Thanks!

Being that the newer builds are all getting larger and larger, there will probably only be Dell / Barebone versions from here on out. And as for the new PIE, WM6.5 does have PIE8 natively in it, but the Axim cannot handle it because once it's loaded, the screen graphics are really funky. So I'm not sure that that will be an option on the Axim. Not unless the GPU drivers are updated.

As soon as you guys try it let me know what it feels. It´s a nice step for a discontinued device run a still beta OS. Thanks for your great interest and your hard work LennySh.
(I'd flash mine but I need to open my device and find why some keys are not working... wifi, Rec and dpad-down buttons are dead???)

I recently posted about a triple Odyssey Client in L11. Removing two instances of it would give you another Megabyte, as would UPX'ing Office Mobile, for example - which worked for me at least in self-cooked emulator ROMs.

I think I'm gonna test the ROM tomorrow. Does it have UC integrated?

Cheers

There is a bug I'm still working on to fix the autorun at first boot issue. Seems WM6.5 was plagued with it not working.

Just downloaded, Flashed the Rom and and tried tcpmp, igo 08 and wifi. will update with more programs tried

Works good so far, and 32 mb free to start with! The one thing I noticed right off the bat was the menu items in programs have a really large font(probably the graphics issues you were mentioning Lenny) Any way to adjust the menu font in the registry?

Yes, somebody pointed that out to me. Building Alpha 2 now so maybe it'll do better.

I did a restore from 6.1, all the programs I usually use (java emulator, tcmcp81, coreplayer, aim, opera, game emulators, skyfire, etc) work as usual, the only one that wouldnt work was pocketmusic it loads up fine, but no audio, audio worked fine in all my other music programs, and arielbattery, wireless icon is missing.

It is really fast and smooth so far for me. You were being too hard on yourself, it's really fast, and I like the new bootscreen. I actually like the huge fonts, its more finger friendly..

There was a weird glitch when I started play on pocket music that was a nanosecond, but nothing serious. It's far from being unusable.

Edit: pocketmusic won't work because I have all my mp3s on my cf card which doesnt work yet lol. So nm.

Thanks again Lenny.

If by "did a restore" you mean a full restore with a backup program, that is a big no-no when going from one build of an OS to another... guaranteed to mess up the system. You should manually re-install them, or have it done for you using UC (SDConfig.txt).

Alpha 2 uploading. Maybe some problems are fixed.

Hmmm, still no CF card on Alpha 2.
