Talking Dell Axim x50v WM6.5 L12 21139 - Alpha1

Well, as I stated, I've recently got my hands on a QVGA WM6.5 source. I've created a VGA WM6.5 ROM for the X50v, and it runs fast as **** !!! The look and feel of this rom is the same as WM6.1 was, since it was QVGA, I could not fully port over all the nifty new apps like the today plugin that is all fancy. But, it is a WM6.5 Beta ROM. Meaning the OS itself likely may have issues itself, therefor porting a Beta OS to an old device would def make this ROM an Alpha release. It does have some graphics issues, and I plan on trying really hard to figure out what old files I need to replace to fix the graphic issues. But I will release this ROM for those of you that may want to "try" it out. I'm not going to say that this ROM is by far ready for day-to-day use. But who knows. Maybe it'll do better than I think it will. I'll post the download link later on, as well as some screenshots.

REMINDER!
Please do not expect a perfect ROM. This ROM is an Alpha ROM and the OS (WM6.5) is still in Beta!! So somethings may/will not work!

BTW, no CF support for some reason in the ROM. Had same issue with the X51v. Drivers and all are installed. It's just not loading the driver or something in WM6.5.

Thanks! I'm just flashing this Alpha-Build... will try out in the next few hours

But for so long: Great work!!!

*edit01*
First hands on and it runs and runs and runs... like lenny said there are soma graphic issues, but for an alpha it looks great... (i'll go on testing)

*edit02*
I installed a few progs and dont have filesys.exe kicking in all the time... or i just dont feel it :P ok, the first big problem: in the wlan utility i cant see any networks, but PeekPocket WLAN Sniffer shows me all available...

*edit03*
OK, now i tried wlan again: same connection problems like in old WM6.0 or WM6.1 ROMs -> driver loaded, the axim tries to connect and the driver is down... don't know if there is a fix for this wlan problem, but the biggest problem was something else: after i tested the wlan filesys.exe kicked in for about a minute... *sorry*

Downloading file now. Funny how since I'm new, I'll actually load 6.5 even before playing around with 6.1.

Thanks

Default Block size

Hi LennySh!

You're really the man!
Have you found out yet how to change the rom's block size so that the filesys problem goes away once and for all?
(I heard you were getting help from cmonex...Am I wrong?)

Thanx

Default CF-Card support

Like Lenny said the driver isn't loaded. I got a german x50v and tried my CF-card, but as I expected it isn't recognized - wether in the file explorer nor in the total commander I am using...

Default display problems

after using this nice rom a while i have to mention that in most menus there are stripes in it. Some menu points arent readable.

Any idea how to fix this little problem?

I find that in most cases, scrolling through the menu with the d-pad fixes the corrupted entries, but I've had it cause more corruption in a couple of cases - I think when there are more entries than will fit on the screen.

I only have µBook, QMenu and Pocket Informant installed, and I've found it feels a lot laggier overall (compared to A09 where I had a load of crap installed), but µBook reader is extremely snappy and searches the dictionary much faster.

Is there an option to change the menu font size, or is that one of the known issues?

Forgot to mention: thanks Lenny, you rock!

I copied this ROM file to SD card, and tried to flash my X50V. However, it says "no suitable file. Updating failed." I tried WM6.1 too, but got same error. Please help me!
Thanks a lot!

Just follow the normale upgrade/flashing steps... Which OS do you use at the moment on your axim?

for your problem: is your sd-card clean and only the two files on it?

I realized that I have to use clean SD card to upgrade the ROM. Before I was using one SD card with other files on it.

Right now WM6.5 runs good, except most games can display 1/4 screen size only. For example, I played Robo on WM6.1, but after upgraded, it can't display normally.

Another question is how to change the font size of manues? It's too big. And sometime the background of manue looks like mess.

I saw there is a new version of WM6.5 with honeybee nestle UI. When can we have that version for X50v?

Thanks a lot.

One more thing, I tried to change the font size in registry, but everytime I saved and reset my PDA, the font size is still same big.
