Ok, so I figured I'd release the original WM6.5 Beta ROM to the public. Let me know what you think. I'm still working on the new ROM (L15) as much as I can.

Are there any special flashing procedures? Can I flash it straight from a stock WM5 Dell A12 rom?
Thanks |

If anyone out there decides to manually change the pagepool, and finds the program on these forums to do it, here's the easiest way I've found to obtain the correct CRC file.
1. Use the program (search the threads for it) "PagePool Changer". 2. After changing the PagePool to whatever you want it to be, you will also need to generate a valid CRC file to go along with it. The PagePool Changer doesn't do that for you, so you'll have to do it manually. 3. Flash your x51v just like you normally would, using the .nb0 file that you just changed the pagepool on, and using the incorrect original .crc file from the original .nb0 file. 4. During the flashing process, it will fail and give you the error message "Image Checksum error. Please reset the machine." When it does this, the bottom of the screen will show... (the actual values for both fields will differ, I've just used what I have on my screen as an example) RAM checksum: 0x2FF313B2 CRC checksum: 0x4D8192C2 Write these values down or hold off and don't reset the Axim just yet so that you don't lose that information. 5. Use a Hex Editor program like HxD and open up original CRC file. 6. Change "4D8192C2" to "2FF313B2" (or whatever your values are) and save the file. 7. Reformat your SD card and copy your newly editted nb0 and crc files to it, then flash it again. I'm giving it a shot with a 0mb pagepool just to see what happens. Will post again to follow up. Thanks again Lenny! *EDIT - It might also be a good idea, if you're going to use your own custom SDConfig, to leave out any Today plugins, SPB software cabs, and Resco plugins, at least to start with. I don't think there was any incompatibility but if you don't have the RAM upgrade, you may want to hold off and install manually later. Last edited by raynda; 07-15-2009 at 04:20 PM.. I'm anxious to hear how this works on Axim with the memory upgrade, which I have not done.
I'm hesitant to jump from L11 to this, because I am concerned about having enough memory. When you get this running, how about listing any apps you have problems with, and anything (apps or combinations of apps) that causes memory problems (like running out of memory). I have the following with L11: Storage total = 192.62, in use 184.31 MB Program total = 52.17, and with a few things running In Use 36.58 MB I wonder what that would change to with WM6.5 (L14)? Also, something I have allows a safe mode reset boot option (maybe iLauncher) and after booting like that my Program in use is 24.34 MB (2783 MB free). Thanks.

Well uzziah, I'd say it runs very well so far, but it's RAM hungry for sure.
I tried making a 0MB pagepool file and either I did it wrong or it's just not a good idea to try that. I only had 11MB free RAM on startup. I had twice as much on the first flash without editting the pagepool and with all of my programs, plugins, and the like in my SDConfig. I'm flashing it again right now just as Lenny's provided it without messing with the pagepool, but without my SDconfig, to see how that goes. Awesome work, Lenny! Without giving any hint of negativity at all to the release, and also considering that it's the L14 beta and a better L15 will come out eventually, I would guess that the RAM upgrade would be extremely valuable if you plan to use L14 beta as a daily OS. And actually, on the first test flash installed with the pagepool as it was, and with all my programs installed, it wasn't slow at all. I even gave Opera and PIE a test run loading WRAL.com and wikipedia.org and surfing a little bit, and it was very speedy, maybe speedier even than L11. But if you use GPS (which I don't, but I'm assuming) or any other programs that normally have you strapped for free RAM, then you might have issues with running out of RAM. I gotta say though, considering that the target device for WM6.5 was probably devices with 128-256MB RAM, and judging from the talk all this time about the sheer size of the OS and the work getting it down to the right size, I'm extremely impressed with the little bit I've had a chance to see so far! ![]() *EDIT - On a clean flash, with no SDConfig or other programs installed at all, here's my RAM numbers. Total - 52.17 In use - 32.56 Free - 19.61 (With both CF card and SD slots in use) Last edited by raynda; 07-15-2009 at 05:04 PM.. Reason: ADDED RAM INFO FOR CLEAN FLASH |

Some programs you guys may try to install might give you an error message to let you know you need to install netcf.core.ppc3.arm before running said program for the first time.
Just thought I'd save you all the trouble of googling if you end up needing it, I'm attaching it to this post, and it comes courtesy of someone else from XDA Developers. |
