Talking Dell Axim X51v WM6.5.5 L16 Beta ROM

Well, after playing with my new kitchen for a little bit, I've managed to build a bootable ROM. Because of an issue with the new kitchen, the CF Slot does not work in this ROM, yet. But I figured I'd pre-release it anyway. ROM runs pretty good. I've not tested everything... Just figured I'd throw this ROM out there... Please post all your findings!!!
  1. WM6.5.5 Build 23547
  2. Does not have UC
  3. CF does not work due to bug in kitchen.

  1. WM6.5.5 Build 23559
  2. Does have UC
  3. CF does not work due to bug in kitchen.

Hi Lenny; Glad to see you are still among the living. I will wait until you have cf card working as that is where I store my programs. Plus I hope it will run on an ax with only 64 meg ram.
A glitch in L14 and one of makuu's builds was if you went into hibernation - either by pressing power button or timed out upon waking up sometimes the screen would jump up and down about 1/2 inch with garbage lines at top.

None of my Axim's have the RAM upgrade. So my X51v has only 64 megs.

L16 Beta 2 coming soon. Probably tonight. Upgraded the SYS to 23559. And added UC back in. Still no CF yet.

What is the difference between 6.5 and 6.5.5?

Thanks
WM6.5 has the same UI as 6.1. 6.5.3 and 6.5.5 have the new finger friendly UI. With the X in the bottom right, instead of top right.

Due to issues in my neighborhood, my home internet is down, but I'll try to post a 6.5.5 ROM today for X51v with fixed CF. I think I manually was able to fix it last night. Didn't have time to flash the ROM to test tho. Also, X51 user's are reporting issues with IE. Anybody noticed the same on X51v?

Hmmmm..... I am getting the same error message, haven't had problems downloading before and would love to try this version is there a 'general' error?

Thanks for your continued support Lenny.

Hi!

Wao! The UI looks so different and cool! THANKS!

What I do not really like yet is the Ram usage ... Did I make any mistake - I got 15MB Ram unused only?
I will get 128 in the next weeks - but without - I think that ROM is pretty useless

Daniel

If you turn off the today plugin, you'll get some RAM back. CHome uses a lot of RAM.

Hi!

Sorry - not even then I can start Word - can you? PPT also cannot ...
Is it possible that it is the calendar? I synced my device and I got lots of appointments.

That does not make your effort less praiseworthy but the ROM quite unusable with 64MB

As I said: I will get 128 very soon - so I look forward for that!

regards
Daniel

for low ram try qmenu with default screen turned off. It worked in L14 giving me 28 meg free but not in makuu's 6.5.5 lite which only gave me 25 meg free either way and qmenu did not replace touch screen menu on makuu's either.

Hi!

Just reflashed, shut down all applications and I have:17,35MB
After disabling the Today Plugin, rebooting and shuting down everything (well - that is the task manager) again: 21,02MB

But still - Word/PPT would not start.

How about devices with 128MB? Maybe it is not the RAM ...

regards
Daniel

Hi!

Some more data:

UC was:
with today: 17,35
without today: 21,02

no UC:
with today: 18,15
without today: 21,10

maybe that is all just coincidence ...

Word and Powerpoint does not start on either ROM

regards
Daniel
