![]() I bought this PDA specifically to use the CF for a scanner for book scouting so its absolutely CRUCIAL that the ability to use it is retained... which wikipedia says its not. ![]() If your not able to upgrade to 6/6.1 (must be very stable too!) without losing the CF then how can I upgrade the most out of this without upgrading to 6? Because I heard that if you don't upgrade then there are lots of bugs. This is the first PDA I have ever owned .I have tried searching but I couldn't find a current answer and I couldn't find any answer on how to upgrade to the latest 5 fimware/rom (whatever it is I have no idea!). Thank you so much for the help. |

Wikipedia is making me more and more confused. So you can upgrade it to 6.5 I guess now? Is this official and does the CF work?

If you are using a Dell X51v all the ROMs will work fine for you. CF works on all the X51 ROMs on this forum. WM 6.1 works better because it has lower ram requirements. The Axim X51v has one week point: it comes with too little ram (Only 64mb). Lenny's L11 is his last WM 6.1 so try that first. L14 is a WM 6.5 ROM. Its slightly more finger friendly but uses more RAM. L16 is a WM 6.5.3 ROM which is the newest and last version of Windows Mobile, It is even more finger friendly and switches the start menu and other controls to the bottom task bar. i cant recommend this too much because it uses even more ram and degrades the user experience. If you become a power user or must use L14 or L16 I recommend getting a ram upgrade. There are many threads on this subject, just search the forum. I hope this answers your questions.

One more question. If I use this "Lenny's L11" will this take care of the bugs automatically that supposedly come with the device (CF, unstable, white screen, etc)? Thanks again. EDIT: I noticed that you said the "Dynamite" rom was the best in a different post. Does the Dynamite rom not work with CF, why didn't you recommend the Dynamite rom? Where can I find the most updated version of this rom (all these A05,A02,etc's are confusing!)? Thanks Last edited by tmt345; 07-17-2010 at 12:31 AM.. |

Hi!
With most ROMs that are called stable (at least called more or less stable) that I tried, the CF slot did work. But why not just try - it takes about 10min. I think the choice between 6.1 and 6.5 is: do you prefer stylus or finger. 6.5 is annoying if you prefer the stylus whereas 6.1 is not finger friendly. I prefer stylus so I use 6.1. In my opinion you will not get 6.1 really finger friendly while you will also not get 6.5 really stylus friendly. If someone knows how to I'd be interested ... I would love to use Office 2010 mobile which is not possible with 6.1 but I hate kinetic scrolling more than my desire to use the extra Office features. If someone knows how to completely turn that off in 6.5 I would love to try again. Another point is RAM. 6.1 might be usable with 64MB but I think 6.5 is almost not usable. Maybe if you only use your PDA for one purpose - for one program that does not require a lot of RAM 64MB with 6.5 might work. In my opinion dynamite 6.1 is the best ROM for stylus use. Lennys ROMs might be really good but sometimes a bit too playful in my opinion and ... he keeps people waiting on his L16 for a long time promising to release soon. Of course you cannot complain about free things but I would not trust that L16 will be released too soon. regards Daniel |

Thanks both of you guys for the answers.
The reason I was so careful about choosing is because I thought it was like PSP hacking where you cannot downgrade. |
